Games Monster Review

Editor's Verdict: Gamesmonster, unlike the majority of other online game-rental services, don't believe in out-dated platforms. The best experiences, the best audio, the best visuals, the best games, are all played on Next-generation platforms. Each major gaming company has one - the Xbox 360, the PS3, the Nintendo Wii - all superbly powerful machines playing the hottest games around. For this reason, gamesmonster.co.uk only provide for these beasts of modern entertainment, but does this idea work? As with other online game-rental services, Gamesmonster use the wishlist format. You simply add games to your wishlist by selecting them via the browse or search functions, and once have have enough titles in your list, one or more titles (depending on your membership package) will be immediately dispatched to you via first class post. Once you receive your game, the length of time you keep it for is up to you, as there are no due dates, no late-fees and no deadlines, bliss! But once this bliss starts to wear, and you feel the urge to rent different titles, just pop the disc back in the pre-paid mailer it was sent to you in, put it in the post-box, and it'll be delivered back by first-class, too. Once Gamesmonster receive the title, they'll remove it from your playlist, and send the next available title. In keeping with the next-gen ethos of the consoles, the Gamesmonster site has a crisp and clean feel to it, using stylized icons and slick graphics to remind you that the gaming experience that you're going to receive is a hi-tech one. In terms of bells and whistles, there aren't much to speak of - gamesmonster have definitely gone the minimalist route, but this doesn't necessarily take away from the browsing experience. The site is laid out in a clear and uncluttered format, and it's easy to browse and navigate through all the different titles, especially when there are only 3 consoles to choose from. But lack of choice isn't necessarily lack of content. With Gamesmonster.co.uk, the focus on the 3 major next-gen consoles mean that there are less platforms to stock for. As a direct result of this, not only would you be hard pressed to find a game for these consoles that Gamesmonster does not provide, but you'd also find it pretty hard to find a game too popular to be in stock, as is a problem with other companies and services. Luckily, Gamesmonster has larger stocks of single and specific titles, making this a problem that you need not worry about. A drawback with the system Gamesmonster offers however, is the lack of membership package options. Some of the larger online game-rental companies have got alot of their popularity just from having the larger unlimited rental packages, such as the allowance of 3, 4 and 5 games rented at any one time. Unfortunately, Gamesmonster only allows a game cap of 2 at a time, on their Pro package. Fortunately, Gamesmonster makes up for this by not only allowing prospective customers to create a Gamer Free account, where you can browse and pre-select your titles ahead of time, allowing you to immediately get your titles when you switch onto a premium package, but also a brilliant 10-day free-trial, giving more power for your pound. The service Gamesmonster is of a high standard, and they provide polite and swift customer support when it is needed, as well as first class postage and delivery as standard, ensuring the quick arrival of your selections. What they lack in website additions and extras, they do make up for in efficiency. They also have plans to expand the service in the future, which will prove to further enhance the rental experience. All in all, Gamesmonster.co.uk provide a solid service, catering largely to the Next-Gen console owners. Their single membership option is excellent value, and their title range is brilliant for a company only stocking three platforms. If you own a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, or are lucky enough to own all three, and are looking to rent 1 or 2 games at a time, Gamesmonster is definitely the place for you, so take a look at their site at the link below now, and sign up for a free 10 day trial!
